Behavioural Design 101

Know the core ideas that make Behavioural Design work and why it's so useful in so many projects.

    • Understand the basics:
      What is Behavioural Design? Learn the key ideas and start using them.

    • Think like a behavioural pro:
      Start thinking the way top behavioural designers do with mindsets to make your projects better.

    • Learn important theories: Get to know the big theories that all the pros use... and when to use them.

      Assignment: Use and apply Behavioural Mindsets to your practice.


WEEK 2: 16th September

Repack problems the behavioural way

Rethink how you approach challenges, identify and tackle issues using behavioural perspective to reveal your hidden unknowns, spot behaviours that are tripping up your success and to start behavioural projects strong.

    • Speak the language of behaviour: Use the multiple definitions of behaviour to enhance communication with clients and team members.

    • Identify core issues: Focus on discovering the true behavioural causes behind problems.

    • Break behaviours down: Use traits as a quick tool to unpack a potential behaviour.

      Assignment: Reframe the client brief using Behavioural Problem Framing™.

Plan effective behavioural research

Make change stick

Behaviour change takes more than one step. Design and adapt people’s behavioural change journeys to make sure your hard work keeps on working.

    • Map out change journeys: Use a simple canvas to see and plan your ideas.

    • Timing is key: Learn to spot the perfect moments to start or change a behaviour.

    • Handle different situations: Change looks different to different people. Use various approaches adapt to different change scenarios.

    Assignment: Plot and design people's change journeys using the Behaviour Change Pathways™.


WEEK 7: 21st October

Support the long arm of change

Behaviour change takes time. Not useful in our fast paced world! Learn how to plan, support and communicate behaviour change to make sure the momentum of your projects keeps going.

    • Predict changes: Understand and manage how people might react to new things.

    • Set up your signals of change: Help your team and clients catch changes in change before they set you back.

    • Track your success: Find out how to check if your changes are working.

    Assignment: Forecast immediate and longer term change using the Theory of Behaviour Change Canvas™.

Ethical practice

If you’re shaping behaviours ethics should be on the tip of your tongue. Each week we explore the specific ethical uses, considerations and best practice of each topic.

How you’ll learn

Learn new skills online at your own pace and online without upending your daily routine, and connect with peers from around the world.

Each week, expect to spend around 8 hours studying and practicing your new skills.
